- I am having a problem with my new Pentium computer with
- Windows 95, and USR Sportster (28.8 V.34 external w/o voice).
- I haven't been able to get the modem to work with any
- terminal program in Windows (tried Telix for Windows and
- HyperTerm), even though it works fine with Telix for DOS.
-
- Here are the symptoms on HyperTerm- even though it dials
- correctly, and I can see carrier detection on the modem
- LED, the software doesn't recognize the connection.
-
- To troubleshoot, I setup HyperTerm for a direct link serial
- connection- so that I could communicate directly with the
- modem. (e.g, I typed "AT" commands directly). Now everything
- works fine - I can dial with ATDT, and logon - *except for
- one caveat*. If I mouse-click on another window on the
- desktop to activate it, and then click back to HyperTerm,
- the terminal hangs up. I find that the modem is still
- responding to my commands (it can hang up and dial again)
- but no characters are being received by the computer and
- displayed on the terminal window.
-
- What's going on?! My suspicion is that it is some software
- problem - either Windows 95 or the serial port driver. Has
- anybody else seen this problem? I've seen some postings
- on this newsgroup about updated .INF files - what are
- these for, where can I get them, and would they help?
-
- Any help would be appreciated.
- Thanks,
- Jimmy Yee
